Regular Meeting of the Mantua Village Council,
July 20, 2004

Mayor Hopkins opened the meeting at 7:10 p.m., at Village Hall, and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

MAYOR’S REPORT: Met with Ed Trego, CT, and the City of Aurora for a tour of our Water Plant. Attended a memorial service, along with David Benjamin, for Judge Martell, who died recently.

CLERK’S REPORT: Reported on income, expenses and balances for June.

C. Hummel moved to accept all committee reports. L. Schilling second. All Committee and Financial reports are on file in the Clerk’s Office.

E. Trego – Route 44 project should be completed by August 2nd. Following weeks will be grinding and paving. 2 poles yet to be removed by Ohio Edison. Sidewalks on North Main St. had been questioned. One (10928) will be removed and one (10912) will remain. Have removed some 100-year old storm sewers and curbing done on Main St. Survey done of Mini-Park, electric needs to be turned back on and possible some decorative fencing. Bulk water sale; Issue with County needs resolved first. Brush pick-up policy is available at the Hall.

H. Buchert – Safety meeting on Sunday, July 25th.

D. Hura – Mantua Matters for September will be done before Potato Festival. Deadline for articles is August 20th.

Tony Stankiewicz, candidate for County Sheriff, made a brief statement.

Residents: B. Ress – question on progress of pump station for school.

Michelle Evans explained Reverse Mortgage Program for the elderly.

C. Toth – complaint regarding 4-wheelers on neighboring property, causing a nuisance. Chief Buchert explained that it was not illegal on private property.

J. Rogers – Rotary Club is sponsoring a Farmer’s Market on the 3rd Saturday in August, September and October from 9 am to 1 pm.
