Regular Meeting of the Mantua Village Council,
March 22, 2004

Mayor Hopkins opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m., at Village Hall, and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

MAYOR’S REPORT: Attended meeting on the WWTP, walked the Plant with Ed Trego and David Benjamin, met with Jerry Carlton regarding offices in the Village School.

RES. 2004-10 A RESOLUTION SELECTING THE BID OF, AWARDING A CONTRACT TO, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, CLERK-TREASURER, AND THE VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH NORTHEAST OHIO TRENCHING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE MAIN STREET TRAFFIC CONTROL IMPROVEMEMNTS CONTRACT AT A BID PRICE OF TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY-THREE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-NINE DOLLARS AND SEVENTY CENTS (BASE BID AND ALTERNATE) OF ($273,169.70) AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AS VILLAGE COUNCIL DESIRES TO SELECT THIS BID AND AUTHORIZE THIS CONTRACT AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY. R. Iafelice –Will be meeting with Howard Huff on several issues including outstanding Turnpike bill.

E. Trego – Reminder of curbside Spring cleanup will be on May 8th and that hydrant flushing will be done this week. Concerns from W. Hawkins regarding ORD 2004-09, were explained and Ed will meet with him for further discussion.

H. Buchert – Safety meeting at 9 am on Sunday, January 28th. Patrol car (1028) is nearing end of warranty.

D. Benjamin – Distributed monthly activity report.

J. Rogers – Exterior Maintenance Code is now ready. Public Hearing will be held before next Council meeting. Letter from Rotary regarding Farmer’s Market – he will attend Rotary meeting tomorrow night for information.

M. Hura – Made a motion for Council to approve himself and Mayor meeting with the Township regarding the old fire station. J. Rogers second. All ayes on roll call.

CITIZENS:

N. Erickson – Questioned whether the water/sewer easement has been received for the new Elementary School. They have not. The Village needs to check with Squires, Sanders regarding this easement. Dave Benjamin will follow up.

C. Toth - Concerned about damage and deterioration of curb and sidewalk, partly from heavy machinery during work on Franklin St. Village Administrator will compare pre-construction video with current condition and will meet with resident to assess situation. Mrs. Toth asked for expediency in this matter. Does not want to take further legal measures.

R. Gregory – Thanks to the Service Department and Fire Department for quick response to a resident water problem.
