Regular Meeting of the Mantua Village Council,
March 21, 2006

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of silence was held for Carolyn Thompson-Hummel who recently passed away. She was a former Mayor and Council woman and contributed many hours to the Cemetery Board. The Mayor directed that the flags be at half mast in her honor.

Mayors Report: Thanked the Planning Commission for the successful meeting held at the Fire Station to discuss the comprehensive plan for Mantua Village. Over 100 attended. Lynne Erickson and Bob Harris from Portage County Regional Planning gave very informative speeches.

Appointed Mike Pender, Bob Martin and Mike McCauley to head up the Exterior Maintenance advisory board. Channel 97 on Adelphia will broadcast the Cleveland Indians games.

The Mayor worked on Ralph Gregory’s easement. C.T. did the legal work. Attended the annual health dinner.

2005-10 Motion to bring off table made by G. Seith seconded by W. Hawkins. Giles would like discussion on this, because it has been tabled since last year.Vote: J. Rogers, No, L. Schilling, No, M. Hura, W. Hawkins, Yes, B. Prescott, Yes, G. Seith, Yes. Mayor Hopkins tie breaker vote, No. Remains tabled on 2nd reading.

2006-05 Motion to bring to floor for 3rd reading made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote. Chief Buchert advised that the policy for credit cards will be amended to state no cash advances will be allowed. Motion to pass as amended on final reading made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote.

2006-10 Motion to bring to floor made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote. Mayor stated that this is a yearly codification that needs done. Motion to pass on 1st reading made by M. Hura, seconded by J. Rogers. All ayes on vote. Motion to suspend the rules made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote. Motion to pass on 3rd and final reading made by M. Hura, seconded by L. Schilling. All ayes on vote.

2006-11 Motion to bring to floor made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote. Betsy explained that money is needed in the Street Rogers. Motion to pass on made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote.

Motion to accept all committee reports on file made by L. Schilling, seconded by M. Hura. All ayes on vote.

The Mayor advised there will be a Special Council meeting scheduled the 1st week in April to discuss the expenses at the new Village Hall.

R. Iafelice, C. T. Consultants: Would like a work session to discuss the sale of water to the County. He will distribute the facts once available.

W. Hawkins: Reported on Finance Committee; presently looking at Solicitor Dave Benjamin’s new contract. Discussed the expenses of the new hall.

J. Rogers: Thanked the Chamber of Commerce for helping coordinate the comprehensive planning meeting. Will have the survey results at the next Planning Commission meeting.
